Glowing tributes were paid to Fr. Francis Murphy for his dedicated services as the Acting Dean of the Cathedral at a grand reception held in his honour at St. George`s Metropolitan Cathedral, Southwark, on Sunday 15th October.
Fr. Francis Murphy, who was Sub- Dean and then made Acting Dean of the Cathedral after the sudden passing away of the late Canon Richard Hearn last year, took the reins of the Cathedral at a difficult and testing time in the Cathedral’s history.
During his short tenure, Fr. Murphy made some essential alterations like installing a Cross in the centre of the sanctuary just above the main altar. This made it easier for the congregation to have a better look at the Holy Cross when offering their prayers.
Fr. Michael Branch, the current Dean of the Cathedral, thanked Fr. Murphy for his dedication and service to the Cathedral and the people of the Archdiocese during his tenure as Sub-Dean and Acting Dean.
Fr. Murphy, who will go om to take charge of St. John the Baptist Church in Purley, thanked the Dean, the clergy and the parishioners for their love, affection and cooperation extended to him during his stay in the Cathedral.
Fr. Murphy was later presented with a gift cheque as a token of the people´s love and gratitude to him.
